This course especially prepares students to make graphicnovels/ comic books, i.e. a book that more or less follows the Manga cartoondrawing of the Japanese people. Nowadays, in Indonesia, there is a tendency forsome children, teenagers, and even adults to enjoy cartoon or graphic books whosecharacters have big  expressive eyes. In order that this book can benefit a wide rangeof readers, the writer deliberately writes the book bilingual, thus, the explanations arein Indonesian & English. In teaching or giving a workshop, however, the writerdelivers her instructions in English, in order that participants have more opportunitiesto practice their English actively

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The American Studies course is introduced as an interdisciplinary study which touches with the history, economy, society and culture of the majority as well as the minorities, as well as political situation of the United States. Hands on experience from the American Embassy guests that are based in Indonesia are invited to share their knowledge about the country. As an exchange, the students from a various ethnic background of Indonesia are encouraged to give their opinions and similar or contrastive conditions. As an output of the students’ understanding projects such as the ceremony and role play of the Thanksgiving, Halloween event are performed – in addition to devising a leaflet, brochure or poster about the American society and culture.
